The Frugally Cool NuWave Oven

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

If you are in the market for a frugally cool kitchen appliance that saves money and time without compromising delicious meals from the kitchen; the NuWave oven is for you.

If you have ever thought about buying a NuWave Infrared Oven but hesitated because it seems to be too good to be true; this product review is for you.

The NuWave is Superior To A Microwave – “Even a Cave Man Can Do It”

Until recently, the microwave has been the way to fix meals quickly, but microwave cooking lacks variety, packs on the pounds and is simply – Boring!

Enter the frugally cool Nuwave Oven. It’s a revolutionary way to cook using no micro waves but uses a combination of infrared, convection, and conduction technology. Food cooks faster and fresher; from freezer to oven in any oven safe containers; even ones that blow up microwaves!

Any oven safe pan, plate or tray can be used in this amazing oven; if you need a pan at all, since the best cooking seems to be directly on the racks that come with the appliance.

Not only does it cook quickly, foods can be layered so everything is cooking at the same time.

Steak, potatoes, and sprouts is easy in the NuWave Oven

The other day I cooked brussell sprouts on the top layer, in the bottom layer was a nice sirloin steak for two. Having given up on broiling steaks years ago, since I could never get them “medium rare” for my liking this was a true test of the Nuwaves claims.

A nice and easy cook book and easy reference laminated card is included in the NuWave pro package so it takes the guess work out of determining time and temperature of cooking. There is really only 2 heat settings on the system; high and reheat. When cooking meals, the temperature is always set on high. Length of time is determined by looking at the card that lists weight and type of food to be cooked.

The NuWave Pro uses digital push button technology, while the regular NuWave uses an analog (dial). Once the time is set, you can go back to doing other things; it’s like a rice cooker or bread maker on steroids.

To ensure even cooking and browning, similar to a microwave, you will need to flip or turn the food.though so totally simple does require flipping food for even cooking. Once the Nuwave beeps after completing the first cooking cycle, the oven shuts off, waiting for a reset. Once the food is flipped or turned, reset the cooking time and it will finish cooking the meal, while you do other things.

Think about the applications, push the button then go outside and wash the car, push kids on a swing or have a glass of wine on the wicker chaise while dinner is cooking. In other words, you can step away from the oven or stove top guilt free, with full confidence your meal will be perfectly cooked and delicious.

The NuWave Supports Weight Loss

For those who need to loose weight. Here too, the frugal cool Nuwave is perfect. Watch any cooking show on television and generous amounts of either olive oil or butter are used for browning, cooking and seasoning. When cooking meats, fish or poultry in the Nuwave, no additional fats are needed for cooking, without compromising taste or tenderness. While cooking these proteins it seals the flavor and moistness in while fat drippings will be collecting in the tray 2 to 3 times more than from any other method of cooking.

Steamed vegetables cook faster, preserving greater amounts of natural rich nutrients that are usually boiled or baked away. It’s it healthy, flavor full choice calorie cutting cooking.

Quick and Easy Clean Up

I would never recommend throwing out your pots and pans, but I will guarantee you will use them less and less once you experience the advantages of NuWave cooking. All parts are completely dish washer safe EXCEPT the Power Head.

It comes with everything you need to cook anything though a roll of foil and a few round baking pans are good to have on hand for those slip through the rack foods, yummy deserts and pastries listed in the cook book.

Every part of this system is utilized, unless you order the worthless accessories that jack the price up. The primary components that come in the NuWave Pro are:

The Power Head: I would recommend buying the easy-to-use push button Pro system over the timer like dialer (analog) of the cheaper model. For just a few dollars more you get a better looking and more up to date operating system.

The Dome: This is the light weight, plastic but durable, clear cooking wall the contains the food while cooking. The Pro also includes an extender ring to add additional height to the cooking space.

Cooking Rack: One rack serves as a 1″ or 4″ grill rack. Simply reverse the rack based on the cooking height recommended. The Pro again includes an additional 2″ cooking rack for multi-layered cooking.

Liner Pan: This is the easy to clean grease catcher baby. Made of non stick enamel and is Eco-friendly made without PFTE (Polytetrafluoroethylene Teflon) or PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid, also used in the making of Teflon).

Base: The base can also be used as the serving tray. What oven or microwave can do that?

Dome Holder: When it’s time to flip or rotate the food, the dome needs to be completely removed. Though not bulky, it is a high tech piece of equipment with hot heating elements that needs a secure, convenient and safe place to sit while attending to the food. The dome holder has been perfectly designed to accommodate this need. There’s no drag or drip, just a quick flip of the lid that allows it to sit securely on the holder.

10″ Baking Pan: Ah deserts, no cooking appliance would be complete without the ability to create luscious deserts. The NuWave can bake. Think of it as an Easy Bake Oven for adults! Enjoy…

  • Cinnamon Rolls
  • Cake
  • Apple Crisp
  • Brownies
  • Lemon Squares
  • Tarts
  • Pies

A Couple of Warnings

Don’t get pulled into to buying the Pizza Accessories. If used, the pizza has to be flipped like all other foods. Though the accessories include a nice bamboo cutting board and server, the process of flipping a pizza, with toppings is really awkward; doable but awkward.

The Nuwave website will try to upsell big time. From experience, everything you need comes in the standard Nuwave Pro package. They will offer some great accessories for free but watch out for possible additional shipping charges.

It feels strange to cook with the NuWave at first; “boiling” eggs with no water, minimal need for pots and pans, push button simplicity, and appetizer to desert convenience makes cooking too simple.

NuWave Oven Variations?

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

It can be confusing when it comes to shopping for a NuWave Oven due to all the variations in the product so I’ve broken them down to save you some shopping time.

First let’s take a look at what the NuWave actually is before going over the variations in models.

What is the NuWave

The NuWave is a relatively small, kitchen counter top appliance that cooks, browns, bakes, dehydrates, steams and whatever else I may have missed related to cooking. It’s a combination convection, infrared and conventional heat systems all wrapped into one.

It requires no pre-heating, de-frosting or warming up preparations. Unlike a conventional oven, the heat is instant and will save time and energy. It’s as quick as a microwave and as savvy as high end restaurant equipment. It requires very little additional cooking oils since it cooks in natural oils already present within the food being cooked.

It will cook everything edible, even boiling eggs without needing a pot with water. Clean up is easy, since most of the cooking is done right on the product provided grill. Excess fats and oils drip into a collecting pan (that can double as a serving tray) for simple, easy clean ups.

The variations between the NuWave and the NuWave Pro

As of this writing, there are 3 products at 3 price points. If you pay any more, unless you buy the worthless upsells, you are getting ripped off. These price points are:

  • NuWave Oven 20203 – $99.00
  • NuWave Oven 20333 – $119.99
  • NuWave Oven Pro 20326 – $139.99

Oven 20203

Lowest Priced NuWave Oven – Still a great value – click image for more info.

This is the smallest model of the 3 NuWave variations. This baby is perfect for dorm rooms, boating, traveling or studio apartments. It comes with a reversible rack for cooking adjustments but doesn’t have the few extras the other models come with. Another major difference is, it uses a timer type (analog) temperature control setting system rather than a push button electronic system.

It’s sold only in white with red accents.

Oven Pro 20333

This middle priced NuWave features the digital (push button) setting system and comes with an extending ring. It’s difficult to cook layers of food with the first model since the space can get cramped. This model provides space to cook a large chicken or small turkey along with all the fix’ns.

It’s sold with optional white with blue or red accents.

Oven Pro 20326

The big dog – Everything you need to cook anything you want!

This is the big dog of NuWave variations! It comes with everything you need to cook anything you want! The extra tray pictured allows for several layers of cooking. The extra 10″ baking pan helps with the baking or with dishes that need more saucing. It too uses a the electronic push button setting system. It also comes with the extender ring which increases the overall cooking capacity up to 50%.

This model also comes with instructional materials (DVD), a cook book, 25 Gourmet Recipe Cards and a nifty water proofed quick and easy time and temperature sheet.

It’s sold only in black with sexy silver accents. Click image for more…
